Der »Gorgias« ist einer der umfangreichsten und inhaltlich komplexesten Dialoge Platons. Nach gĂ€ngiger Meinung handelt sich um ein GesprĂ€ch zwischen Sokrates und drei uneinsichtigen Personen, wobei Sokrates am Ende obsiegt. Der Dialog ist danach ein â€șProtreptikosâ€č, eine Mahnung zur Philosophie. Das ist richtig, aber der Dialog zeigt auch, dass die Mahnung keinen Erfolg hat und warum das nicht möglich ist.Die (konzentrierte) NeuĂŒbersetzung und der eingeschobene Kommentar beschrĂ€nken sich auf das eigentliche Thema, die Auseinandersetzung zwischen politischer RealitĂ€t (Wettbewerb, Ungleichheit) und idealistischen Hoffnungen (Gleichheit aller Menschen). Sie ist daher gut als Einstieg geeignet. Kursive Zwischentitel zeigen die VielfĂ€ltigkeit der diskutierten Einzelfragen. Das gilt besonders fĂŒr Sokrates' GesprĂ€ch mit Kallikles, den Höhepunkt des Dialogs, weil es dort um das wichtigste aller politischen Themen, um Leben und Tod, geht. Zugrunde liegt der griechische Oxfordtext von Burnet; die Stephanuspaginierung wird zeilengenau mitgefĂŒhrt.
