Der Autor Matthias Freise, Professor für Slavische Literaturen an der Universtät Göttingen, nimmt die Verantwortung eines Dichters für die Beziehung zum kulturellen Erbe - sowohl für die Überwindung von Klischees als auch für die Rückbesinnung auf Vergangenes - zum Ausgangspunkt. Miloszs Werk zeigt sich in den Textanalysen als "Arche" kultureller Epochen und geistiger Strömungen. Doch auch als moralischer "Leuchtturm" des Exils auf das kommunistisch beherrschte Polen kommt der Autor zur Sprache. Ursprünglich beheimatet in der polnischen Avantgarde der 1930er Jahre, prägen drei fulminante Comebacks Miloszs Dichterkarriere: 1945 wird er zur Leitfigur der Nachkriegsgeneration, die Verleihung des Literaturnobelpreises 1980 lässt ihn zu einer der Symbolfiguren für die Solidarnosc-Bewegung werden und im Jahr 2000 überrascht er mit enem ausdrucksstarken und kämpferischen Spätwerk.
