Der Bandanalysiert wesentliche Entwicklungen von Objektivität, v.a. in der französischen Literatur: Objektivität zeigt sich in der Literatur des 19. Jahrhunderts als dialektischer Gegenspieler von Subjektivität, im 20. Jahrhundert kommt es zu komplexen Steigerungsformen, ja zur Infragestellung - das Konzept wird jedoch nicht aufgegeben, sondern als Reflexionsbegriff weiterentwickelt. Zwölf Beiträge untersuchen auf methodisch und inhaltlich kohärente Weise Objektivität in zentralen Werken der Moderne.
