KINETICS OF PYROLYSIS OF COALS VARYING IN RANK
J. Andrés, J. Ibarra, R. Moliner and M. Muñoz., Instituto de Carboquímica. CSIC. P.O. Box 589, 50080 Zaragoza, Spain
Publisher Summary
Kinetic parameters reported for overall coal decomposition as well as individual volatile species present discrepancies that could be attributed to both the type of coal and the experimental technique employed. This chapter discusses a study in which distributed kinetic parameters are deduced for coals to obtain some data about the dependence of pyrolysis rates on coal rank. A computerized program was used to fit the experimental data. The cumulative evolution curves of CO2, CH4, and S-compounds for the four coals tested were obtained. The variations of kinetic parameters with rank do not seem to follow a definitive trend. A clearer trend is observed for the variation of standard deviation with rank. The kinetic parameters obtained for CH4 evolution show a clear independence of coal rank. Distributed kinetic parameters for CO2, CH4, and S-compounds evolution rate from pyrolysis of four coals ranging from peat to bituminous coals have been deduced b...
