Asume, además, el desafío de hacer Historia –con mayúscula– sin héroes ni gestas, sin fastos ni escenarios.Mirtha Rivero construye un tejido narrativo que articula al país por sus costados históricos, pero también por los geográficos; que cuenta historias de vidas aparentemente sencillas, unidas por el hilo autobiográfico, hasta remontar y ofrecer instantáneas de la Venezuela de la segunda mitad del siglo XX.En esta obra se combinan la periodista que hurga en su vida propia y en vidas ajenas con la cronista que relata esas vidas con criterio histórico, para ofrecer francos y siempre conmovedores testimonios de seres impactados por una determinada forma de vivir al país, de sentirlo, pero también de padecerlo.Se trata, a todas luces, de un relato en tonos sepia, soberbiamente escrito, polifónico, pródigo en metáforas. Su lectura deja un sabor nostálgico –¿qué pasó?, ¿qué nos pasó?– al tiempo que ofrece pinceladas de respuestas sobre nuestras continuidades y rupturas como habitantes y dolientes de un país que ya no existe.
