En "Las fronteras de la muerte" se traza la genealogía del concepto de muerte, en particular el cambio radical que sufrió a partir del siglo XVII, cuando la medicalización de la muerte y el miedo a la inhumación prematura cuestionaron la certidumbre de sus signos. Ya en el siglo XX, explica Laura Bossi, las nuevas técnicas de reanimación y de los trasplantes plantearon el problema de no considerar vivo a alguien que está efectivamente muerto y que podría ser un donador de órganos. Con ayuda de este recorrido histórico la autora descubre las razones sociales, culturales, científicas, económicas y religiosas del debate moderno en torno a las fronteras entre la vida y la muerte.
