Il lavoro si divide in due parti: la prima propone la ricostruzione della biografia clementina a partire dalle testimonianze autobiografiche, concentrando l'attenzione sulla formazione e sulla presumibile conversione dello Stromateo; la seconda parte del lavoro tenta di ricomporre la biografia dell'Alessandrino sulla base dei Testimoniagreci di III-XVI secolo.
