Der Band versammelt die BeitrĂ€ge der Vortragsreihe Geteilte Erinnerungen – deutsche Geschichten, die im Wintersemester 2009/2010 an der TU Braunschweig stattfand. Sie spĂŒrt jenen deutsch-deutschen Geschichten nach, die sich im Schatten der Mauer zugetragen haben und sich – wie deren Splitter – verstreuen und verflĂŒchtigen. Selbst harte politisch-militĂ€rische Grenzen wie der römische Limes, die chinesische Mauer oder Europas Eiserner Vorhang unterliegen am Ende dem Naturgesetz des Wandels – von einer trennenden Demarkationslinie und Angstzone hin zu einem verbindenden Kulturraum. Allerdings, und insofern stimmt das mit dem Naturgesetz nur bedingt, geschieht derlei nie von selbst. Man muss die Dinge anfassen und die Frage nach den Geschichten dahinter stellen. Es ist an uns, sie zu erzĂ€hlen, wieder und wieder.
