Die in diesem Band zusammengestellten Aufsätze befassen sich mit verschiedenen Aspekten der Zeit. Das Ziel ist nicht, den Begriff der Zeit auf einen Nenner zu bringen, sondern zu zeigen, dass viele Formen der Zeit und durchaus verschiedene Zeitstrukturen existieren. Nicht ein universal gültiger Zeitbegriff ist das Ziel. Vielmehr soll die Vielfalt des Zeitbegriffs zur Sprache gebracht werden.

Die Texte mit linguistischem Ansatz versuchen zu analysieren, wie der Zeitbegriff sprachlich in Erscheinung tritt bzw. wie Zeit überhaupt diskursiv etabliert wird. Die Untersuchung einer orientalischen Miniatur zeigt, wie das Zeitgefühl durch die vom Künstler bewusst geleitete Bewegung des Auges hergestellt wird. Weitere Aspekte des Zeitbegriffs treten bei der Analyse eines Films zutage, in der besonders die existenzielle Bedeutung von Zeit und Ereignis zur Sprache kommt. Die Texte mit soziologischem Ansatz stellen dar, wie der Wandel der Zeit und der jeweilige Zeitgeist an verschiedenen Diskursen abgelesen werden kann.
