Dieses Buch gibt einen Überblick über die Rolle des Deutschen als plurizentrische Sprache am Beispiel der österreichischen Varietät des Deutschen. Dabei werden Aspekte wie Diminutive, der historisch-kulturelle Hintergrund oder die Zensur der österreichischen Literatur (Austriazismenwegfall) angeführt sowie weitere Funktionen der österreichischen Varietät herausgearbeitet. Nach einer Analyse von Wörterbüchern wird auf die nötigen Konsequenzen für die Sprachdidaktik (plurizentrische Lehrbücher) und Translatorik (plurizentrisch geschulte Übersetzer) eingegangen.
