Il tema della liturgia rinnovata nel senso cui prima s'è fatto cenno, una volta generalizzato e ricondotto nel campo architettonico, in termini di positiva dialettica fra 'tradizione' e 'modernità', è precisamente quello affrontato, come scrive l'Autrice, da P. Bellot nel pensare uno "stile cristiano non disattento alle istanze della modernità" o da Schwarz nel "riflettere sulle radici storiche in vista del futuro". È anche il problema di fondo, proprio d'una religione come la nostra, del rapporto fra "immutabile" (il nucleo di fede, oltretutto 'rivelata') e "mutevole" (in ragione del trascorrere storico del tempo, i connessi sviluppi di civiltà e sensibilità delle diverse comunità). Dove nel "mutevole" entra anche, in buona parte, la 'liturgia' come espressione figurativa, in gesti e immagini (espressione "plastica" ebbe a dire efficacemente l'architetto Ludovico Quaroni), della celebrazione e dei suoi contenuti teologici ed ecclesiologici. E proprio al servizio della liturgia, non statica ma necessariamente dinamica, nel tempo e nello spazio (si pensi oggi alle plurime forme di espressione liturgica nei Paesi africani ma anche in Asia o in America Latina) si pongono le arti e, prima fra queste, per la sua funzione di coordinamento e raccordo, l'architettura.
