Tra le regioni d’Italia, Toscana, Umbria e Marche tagliano trasversalmente la Penisola e fanno da cerniera tra Nord e Mezzogiorno. Diversi sono gli elementi che tradizionalmente le accomunano, a partire dalle similarità nella struttura produttiva basata sulla piccola e media impresa, spesso artigiana. Analogie vi sono anche nella disponibilità di risorse territoriali, ambientali e culturali, nonché nell’allocazione della popolazione sul territorio, caratterizzata da una forte e stabile rete di centri urbani di medie e medio-piccole dimensioni.
Il volume sviluppa un’analisi del grado di omogeneità e delle eterogeneità tra queste tre regioni in vari aspetti del contesto socio-economico: il territorio e la dotazione infrastrutturale, la struttura demografica, il tessuto sociale, alcuni elementi dell’evoluzione economica, i profili di benessere.
L’analisi è effettuata utilizzando le principali fonti statistiche ufficiali a disposizione in un’ottica sia sincronica (relativa al periodo più recente a disposizione) che diacronica (riferita, ovepossibile, all’ultimo decennio) a livelli territoriali differenziati (comuni, province, regioni).
