Il 14 marzo 1872 Giacomo Zanella inviava alla sua allieva Vittoria Aganoor, allora diciasettenne, una lettera (ad oggi inedita) che accompagnava un dono prezioso perché inedito e sconosciuto: uno scrittarello che riportava una pagina dello Zibaldone di Giacomo Leopardi. Una pagina che si ricollega ad A Silvia, scritta poco prima, nella quale si parla degli effetti che una giovinetta produce in chi incontra quel «fiore purissimo, intatto, freschissimo di gioventù […] capace di elevarci l’anima, di trasportarci in un altro mondo, di darci un’idea d’angeli, di paradiso, di divinità, di felicità».
Qualcuno dunque conobbe il “diario” leopardiano, o parte di esso, prima della sua pubblicazione avvenuta, com’è noto, negli anni 1898-1900. Chi e perché aveva potuto accedere all’immenso privato scartafaccio leopardiano, che seguiva il suo autore, e riprodurne una pagina? Se l’autore della copiatura ora ci è noto (anche se sconosciuto agli studiosi) grazie ad una annotazione in capo al foglio, rimangono misteriosi i motivi che lo spinsero a tale “violazione”, anche se abbiamo individuato il periodo in cui ciò avvenne.
