L’influenza esercitata dagli scritti manzoniani sulla letteratura dei secoli XX e XXI rappresenta un campo di ricerca molto interessante e in continuo sviluppo. Dopo il 1827 ben pochi autori della nostra letteratura hanno potuto evitare il confronto (o lo scontro) con il grande modello ottocentesco. Questo volume nasce da un progetto più ampio, avviato nel 2012 ed edito nella sua prima parte nel 2017 con il titolo Dopo Manzoni. Testo e paratesto nel romanzo storico del Novecento (Sinestesie). Nel continuum della ricerca volta ad analizzare le riprese manzoniane nella contemporaneità letteraria, i contributi si sono progressivamente evoluti e ampliati anche al di fuori del singolo panorama del genere romanzo storico. Questo testo, quindi, raccoglie, in maniera organica e strutturata, diversi contributi altrimenti sparsi: si tratta per lo più di saggi inediti, articoli o atti di convegno attualmente in corso di stampa e studi vari editi dopo il 2017 e aggiornati al 2019.
Articolati in quattro capitoli, i vari testi critici sono dedicati rispettivamente alle riprese manzoniane rintracciabili nella prosa del Novecento e del Duemila, nella poesia contemporanea e nella parodizzazione dei Promessi sposi, sempre attuale e in continua evoluzione. In tal modo ci si auspica di fornire un quadro quanto più possibile completo e dettagliato dello stato attuale della ricerca in merito ai singoli argomenti trattati.
