Explosion Vented Equipment System Protection Guide

About this book

This book provides complete step by step instruction, practical examples, guidance, and worksheets to meet the needs of a company licensed or competent unlicensed engineer that, by education or experience, understands the concepts presented in this book. This book will help engineers ensure that their company is in compliance with the new standard of dust collection systems by mitigating the exposed risks. The data is presented in tables and graphs along with examples that are based on actual, proven, practical designs to clearly illustrate application of the information provided.

The book is broken down into two parts. Part 1 details structural analysis and design for reinforcing dust handling systems including Design criteria and general theory, Dust collector wall, roof and hopper sections, Access doors, hinges and latches, explosion vent ducts, blast deflectors, and filter bag cage design, Explosion vent duct weather covers, etc. Part 2 covers explosion relief elements and explosion flowing pressure analyses.

Part 1
Structural Analysis and Design for Reinforcing Dust Handling Systems

Part 1: Introduction

This part provides the structural analyses for the reinforcing of the dust handling system components and the design of the ductwork and weather covers associated with the explosion venting element to provide a safe discharge of the hot gasses to a safe location. This part applies to existing equipment already installed in a facility or to new equipment on order or to be ordered. The stability of the dust collectors is addressed when subjected to the explosion venting forces. The environment surrounding the explosion venting is addressed to preclude exposure to personnel or equipment. Electrical grounding design of components is detailed to preclude static discharge that may cause ignition of dust. General housekeeping, a very important aspect of keeping the area safe from a potential explosion, is also addressed. The Appendix A to Part 1 includes worksheets to follow in the structural analyses.
This part can only be used before Part 2 if the following de...
