LGBT Portraits

About this book

In 2014 Photographer Tom Dingley set up his #Outcome project - to photograph LGBT people with the attributes of their everyday life - their work, or their interests; and holding a picture of themself as a child. The message was, no matter how hard it is growing up, no matter who you were, you become who you become, and you are amazing.
Two years and several exhibitions later, this is the Outcome. Portraits from all walks of life: Performers, Artists, Writers, Cooks, Bloggers, Campaigners, Politicians, Volunteers, Diplomats, Entrepreneurs, Journalists, Health Care professionals, Engineers, Pilots, athletes, Plant Hunters, Shamans, Teachers , Students... from a peer of the realm to the woman next door, this is a book about celebration, not celebrity.
The exhibition and photographing continues, travelling around the UK as more people are added to the archive.

Jonathan Blake
Founding member of LGSM
Born in 1949, I am a medically retired, former actor, tailor, costume maker and gardener. I am aLong Term HIV Survivor, diagnosed Oct 1982 HTLV3, and a founding member of ‘Lesbians and Gay Men Support The Miners’ (LGSM).
I am happy that my HIV status was ‘outed’ to the world during the end credits of PRIDE the movie, as I hope it may help to normalise the disease and aid an end to stigma. As a character in the film, Jonathan was not a victim; HIV was just part of his DNA/RNA. I am not a victim. There is no stigma in being HIV+.

EVENTS
Arachne Press loves live literature and we make an effort to present our books through readings. We showcase our work and that of others at our own occasional live literature event in south London: The Story Sessions, which we run like a folk club, with headliners and opportunities for the audience to join in (http://arachnepress.com/the-story-sessions/); and in 2014, we ran our first festival, Solstice Shorts
(http://arachnepress.com/solstice-shorts/), followed by the second, Longest Night a year later. We are always on the lookout for new places to show off, so if you run a bookshop, a festival or any other kind of literature venue, get in touch, we’d love to talk to you.
WORKSHOPS
We offer writing workshops, suitable for writers’ groups, literature festivals or evening classes.
We also run folk song workshops once or twice a year as part of the Solstice Shorts festival, and occasionally put on workshops for writers on marketing, coping with the media, and reading your work in public. If you are interested, please let us know.
