The Birth of Joseph, the Son of Jacob and Rachel
Genesis 30:22–23
Verse 22: And God remembered Rachel, and hearkened to her and opened her womb.
Verse 23: And she conceived and bared a son, and said, God hath taken away my reproach.
Verse 24: And she called his name Joseph.
Genesis 41:50–54
Verse 50: And unto Joseph and his wife Asenath two sons were born. Before the year of famine.
Verse 51: And, Joseph called the name of the first born Manasseh, for God said he hath made me forget all of my toil, and all my Father’s house.
Verse 52: And the name of the second he called Ephraim. For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
Verse 53: And the seventh year of plenteousness that was in the lad of Egypt was ended.
Verse 54: And the seven years of dearth began to come. According as Joseph hath said, and the dearth was in all the lands, but in the land of Egypt there was bread.
Joseph Speaking to Pharaoh
Genesis 41:33–43
Verse 33: Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise and set him over the land of Egypt.
Verse 34: Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
Verse 35: And let them gather all the food of those good years that come and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the Cities.
Verse 36: And that food shall be for food stored to the land against the seven year of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the people parish not through the famine.
Verse 37: And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all the servants.
Verse 38: And Pharaoh said unto all the servants, can we find such a man as this is; a man of whom the Spirit of God is in?
Verse 39: And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, for as much as God hath shewed you, all this, there is none so discrete and wise as thou art.
Verse 40: Thou shall be over my house, and according unto your words shall all my people be ruled. Only in the Throne will I be greater than thou.
Verse 41: And Pharaoh said see that I have set thou over all Egypt.
Verse 42: And Pharaoh took off his ring from of his hand and put it upon Joseph’s hand and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
Verse 43: And he made him to ride in the second Chariot which he had, and they cried before him and bowed their knees. And he made Joseph ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Jacob Blessed Joseph’s Sons
Genesis 48:1
Verse 1: And it came to pass that one told Joseph, Behold, your father is sick, and he took with him his two sons; Manasseh and Ephraim.
Verse 2: And one told Jacob, and said, behold your son Joseph cometh unto thee. And Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
Verse 3: And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luzin the land of Canaan, and blessed me.
Verse 4: And said unto me, behold, I will make thee fruitful and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
Verse 5: And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt; before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine as Rueben and Simeon; “they shall be mine.”
Verse 6: And thou issue which you begetteth after them shall be yours, and shall after the name of their brotheren in their inheritance.
Verse 7: And as for me when I come from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: the same is Bethlehem.
Verse 8: And Israel beheld Joseph’s sons, and said, who are these?
Verse 9: And Joseph said unto his Father, they are my sons whom God has given me in this place; and he said, bring them I pray thee unto me; and I will bless them.
Verse 10: Now the eyes of Israel were dim, and he could not see, and he brought them near unto his Father and Israel kissed them and embraced them.
Verse 11: and Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought that I would see your face again, and Lo, God hath shewed me they seed also.
Verse 12: And Joseph brought them out from between knees and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.
Verse 13: And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and he brought them near unto his Father.
