Bassitalia è un luogo "enigmatico" che comincia dopo il Lazio e finisce a Punta Pescespada, scoglio di Lampedusa di fronte all'Africa. à un nome poetico che soddisfa desideri di bellezza e risveglia ricordi di "viaggi nel tempo" da Paestum alla valle dei Templi, ma è anche un'espressione ambigua dove la parola bassa non denota la posizione sulla carta geografica ma il "censo", cioè la condizione economica sociale e civile "inferiore" che certo Nord individua nella metà meridionale dell'Italia che, mai cosÏ in pericolo e contesa, ha l'occasione per riscoprire il valore dello stare insieme in una fertile competizione, ripensandosi e ritrovando l'unità , che come idea è nata dal Rinascimento, dalla bellezza dei luoghi, e dallo slancio offerto dall'eredità della cultura classica del Mezzogiorno.
