Platypus and Fly

While skies are blue and sun is shining,

Platypus is asleep,

His fur all sleek, his duck-like bill gleams,

As he sleeps by the river deep.

What’s that sound? Platypus hears a buzz,

Feels a flapping near his ear,

-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-

He slowly opens one eye – a tiny slit,

To see what was flying there.

A fly! A fly! A tiny black fly

Was flitting all around,

Playing as he flapped his wings,

Spinning and landing on the ground.

With a scowl and a howl Platypus pounced,

Trying to grab Fly with a slap,

But Fly was too quick and flew out of the way,

Platypus’s paw landing with a clap.

Fly slowly landed on a pretty blue flower,

Thinking he’d look just like a bee.

But Platypus was right behind him –
