  1. La Grande Muraglia Cinese è un antico complesso di fortificazioni fatte di pietra, mattoni, terra compressa, legno e altri materiali.
  2. Ha un'età di 2300 anni.
  3. Dal 2007 è annoverata tra le "7 meraviglie" del mondo.
  4. Nel 1987 è stata dichiarata Patrimonio dell'Unesco.
  5. Alcuni tratti della Muraglia furono costruiti già a partire dal VII secolo a.C., fortificazioni che furono successivamente collegate e rese più grandi da Qin Shi Huang 秦始皇 (220-206 a.C.), il primo imperatore della Cina.
  6. Le dinastie successive hanno provveduto a riparare le mura più antiche e a edificare nuovi tratti: il più noto fu costruito durante la dinastia Ming 明朝 (1368-1644).
  7. Fu costruita lungo l'asse degli storici confini settentrionali della Cina antica per proteggere gli stati e gli imperi cinesi contro le incursioni e le invasioni dei vari gruppi nomadi della steppa eurasiatica.
  8. La Muraglia nel suo complesso si estende da Dandong a est fino a Lop Lake a ovest, dall'odierna frontiera sino-russa a nord a Qinghai a sud, lungo un arco che delinea approssimativamente il confine della steppa mongola.
  9. La Muraglia attraversa 15 province dell'Impero da Xinjiang, a nord-ovest, fino ai confini con la Corea ad est.
  10. Le mura costruite sotto la dinastia Ming misurano complessivamente 8.850 km, di cui 6.259 km di pareti effettive, 359 km di trincee a cui si aggiungono 2.232 km di barriere difensive naturali come colline e fiumi che integrano la Grande Muraglia.
  11. L'intera parete della Muraglia con tutte le sue ramificazioni si estende per 21.196 km che la rendono il "muro" più lungo del pianeta...
