About this book

La Comedìa, o Commedia, conosciuta come Divina Commedia (l'aggettivo «Divina» si deve a Boccaccio), di Dante Alighieri, è probabilmente la più grande opera letteraria mai scritta (forse più di quelle omeriche). È un poema allegorico/didascalico composto in terzine "dantesche" di endecasillabi, in lingua volgare fiorentina. Composta fra il 1304/07 e il 1321, anni dell'esilio di Dante in Lunigiana e in Romagna, l'opera è articolata in tre parti, dette «cantiche» Inferno, Purgatorio e Paradiso, ognuna delle quali composta da 33 canti (uno in più nell' Inferno come proemio) formati da un numero variabile di versi: fra 115 e 160. Il Poeta vi narra di un viaggio immaginario attraverso i tre "regni ultraterreni", che lo condurrà fino alla visione della Trinità. In questa edizione è riportato il Paradiso, corredato dalle celeberrime illustrazioni di Gustave Dorè.
