Papa Pio XII (in latino: Pius PP. XII, nato Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli; Roma, 2 marzo 1876 – Castel Gandolfo, 9 ottobre 1958). Dal 2 marzo 1939 al 9 ottobre 1958 è stato il 260º papa della Chiesa cattolica e 2º sovrano dello Stato della Città del Vaticano. Nel 1990, a conclusione della prima fase di beatificazione, ha ricevuto il titolo di servo di Dio. Nel 2009, a conclusione della seconda fase, ha ricevuto il titolo di venerabile, che ne attesta l'eroicità delle virtù per la Chiesa. La causa di canonizzazione è affidata alla Compagnia di Gesù. Eugenio Pacelli, nato a Roma nel 1876, si laureò in teologia e in iutroque iure presso il Pontificio ateneo del seminario romano all'Apollinare, divenendo sacerdote nel 1899.
