XVI, che portò alla secessione da Roma e alla costituzione di nuove Chiese cristiane. La Riforma non ebbe solo aspetti religiosi, ma rivelò anche profondi motivi politici, economici e sociali. Inoltre, per il nuovo valore dato all'individuo, lasciato solo di fronte al problema della sua salvezza, essa contribuì in modo determinante a delineare i termini della coscienza moderna.
