About this book

Giuseppe Cosmi (1913-1934) nacque a Genova in una famiglia operaia e lui stesso lavorò come operaio. Si appassionò alla poesia da autodidatta e si dedicò anche alla critica letteraria. Fin da bambino fu di salute molto cagionevole e morÏ prematuramente a 24 anni. La sua produzione poetica, per la maggior parte inedita, venne pubblicata da Adriano Grande nel volume postumo Liriche del 1940, qua riedito. Inspiegabilmente ignorata dalla (miope) critica "accademica", la poesia di Giuseppe Cosmi è fra le piÚ alte del primo Novecento. Basti leggere l'inquietante "Donna notturna" Accorresti, donna notturna, / tra gli alberi del viale, / come la cagna raminga: / urlavi, avevi gli occhi / fatti enormi e dallo sguardo / di bestia accondiscendente. / La moneta penetrò nella mano / come la fiocina nel polpo. / S'intrecciarono sulla mia figura / le tue risa stridenti, / irridendo alla mia paura. / Eri il teschio ai piedi della statua / che nelle notti buie di bimbo / mi gridava chi sa quale minaccia.
