Domenico Nucera Abenavoli (1856-1930), attivista politico e giornalista, emigrato nel 1903 negli Stati Uniti, e stabilitosi dapprima Pittsburg e poi a Chicago, si avvicinò ai gruppi anarchici e inizio a scrivere articoli per «Cronaca Sovversiva» stampato a Barre e poi per «La folla». Questa attività attirò l’attenzione delle autorità e il Console generale d’Italia a New York scrisse al ministero dell’interno, in data 24 novembre 1911: «Mi onoro di riferire che l’anarchico Nucera Abenavoli, attivissimo propagandista, conferenziere e incitatore dell’odio di classe. Attualmente residente a Pittsburg, ha di recente iniziato una campagna contro la politica italiana e l’occupazione di Tripoli».
