Il 20 dicembre del 1973, a Madrid, una detonazione di eccezionale potenza scagliava nel cielo l'auto sulla quale viaggiava l'ammiraglio Luis Carrero Blanco detto "l'Orco", presidente del Governo fascista spagnolo e delfino del dittatore Francisco Franco. L'attentato, rivendicato da ETA, segna un passaggio fondamentale nella storia della principale organizzazione militare della sinistra indipendentista basca e, in Spagna, contribuĂŹ a disarticolare il destino della dittatura franchista, facilitando il faticoso percorso di transizione verso l'agognata democrazia. Testo a lungo oggetto di censura e persecuzione, "Operazione Ogro" racconta la complessa organizzazione dell'attentato dal punto di vista dei suoi protagonisti: militanti di ETA, vale a dire semplici esponenti della classe operaia basca decisi a dimostrare come neppure il piĂč potente degli uomini possa dirsi invulnerabile. Un'opera Gillo Pontecorvo trasse da questo libro il soggetto del suo ultimo film: "Ogro", con Gian Maria VolontĂ©, uscito nelle sale italiane nel 1979.
