"Don Chisciotte della Mancia" (titolo originale in lingua spagnola: "El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha") è la più rilevante opera letteraria dello scrittore spagnolo Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, e una delle più importanti nella storia della letteratura. Il protagonista della vicenda - un uomo sulla cinquantina, forte di corporatura, asciutto di corpo e di viso - è un hidalgo spagnolo di nome Alonso Quijano, morbosamente appassionato di romanzi cavallereschi. Le letture lo condizionano a tal punto da trascinarlo in un mondo fantastico, nel quale si convince di essere chiamato a diventare un cavaliere errante. Si mette quindi in viaggio, come gli eroi dei romanzi, per difendere i deboli e riparare i torti. Alonso diventa così il cavaliere don Chisciotte della Mancia e inizia a girare per la Spagna. Nella sua follia, Don Chisciotte trascina con sé un contadino del posto, Sancio Panza, cui promette il governo di un'isola a patto che gli faccia da scudiero. L'autore Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Alcalá de Henares, 29 settembre 1547 – Madrid, 22 aprile 1616) è stato uno scrittore, romanziere, poeta, drammaturgo e militare spagnolo. È universalmente noto per essere l'autore del romanzo Don Chisciotte della Mancia, uno dei capolavori della letteratura mondiale di ogni tempo. In quest'opera, pubblicata in due volumi nel 1605 e nel 1615, l'autore prende di mira con l'arma della satira e dell'ironia i romanzi cavallereschi e la società del suo tempo.
