I Sette Colli di Roma
Ricca di edifici di varie epoche e di testimonianze d'un grandioso passato, Roma è situata sul fiume Tevere, a ca. 27 km dalla foce, in un caratteristico territorio ondulato di origine vulcanica, spoglio d'alberi, la famosa "Campagna romana" o "Agro romano", fino a non molti anni fa desolato e paludoso, che pure tanto fascino ha esercitato su intere generazioni di artisti e letterati di tutti i paesi. Sulla sinistra del Tevere si elevano i Sette colli (Capitolino, Quirinale, Viminale, Esquilino, Celio, Aventino, Palatino), un tempo più alti rispetto al territorio circostante, il cui livello in vari secoli si è notevolmente innalzato. Sulla destra vi sono il Gianicolo, Monte Mario, il Vaticano e Monteverde, mentre ancora sulla sinistra si trova il Pincio. L'altimetria della città varia da poco più di 10 m a ca. 145 , per cui specie nella parte centrale l'impianto urbanistico si presenta spesso accidentato.
