Der Band präsentiert die aktuellen Forschungsergebnisse einer Sozietät an der Theologischen Fakultät Jena im Sommer 2005 zu Walter Grundmann, dessen Wirken bisher vorwiegend mit Blick auf seine führende Rolle im sog. "Entjudungsinstitut" in Eisenach erforscht worden ist. Hier nun wird auch nach der Vorgeschichte und den Kontexten seiner Jenaer Zeit gefragt. Neben Reflexionen zu den Nachwirkungen seines Werkes geht es zudem um eine kritische Analyse seiner wissenschaftlichen Biographie.Ziel der Beiträge ist es, im Miteinander von kirchenhistorischer und exegesegeschichtlicher Arbeit das Wirken des völkischen Theologen Grundmann im Dritten Reich zu erhellen. Dazu konnte erstmals auch der seit Dezember 2005 zugängliche Nachlass Grundmanns im Landeskirchlichen Archiv Eisenach genutzt werden. Insgesamt erscheint das Profil eines einerseits von spezifischen Generationenerfahrungen geprägten, andererseits in seinen exegetischen Grundannahmen auch über das Ende des Dritten Reiches hinweg erstaunlich kontinuierlich argumentierenden Theologen, an dem die Verführbarkeit akademischer Theologie deutlich wird.
