Pietas et eruditio

Pietistische Texte zum Theologiestudium

About this book

Pietistic Texts to the Study of Theology]Pietism has been blamed from the beginning for a certain anti-educationalism. On the other side, renowned pietists have criticized the traditional study of theology and have made proposals for reform. It was Philipp Jacob Spener who had already understood theology as a "habitus practicus".The present volume documents instructions, critique, proposals for reform and other important sources concerning the study of theology that cover a broad temporal and contentual range. Besides Johann Arndt, Philipp Jacob Spener, August Hermann Francke also representatives of the "second generatio" of pietism are documented (J. J. Rambach, J. A. Bengel, S. Gmehlin, J. F. Haug, J. H. Jung-Stilling).
