Die zentrale Fragestellung, ob und wenn ja, welche spezifischen Formen der Predigt in den evangelischen Kirchen der DDR ausgebildet wurden, ist der Gegenstand der Studien zur Predigtpraxis in der DDR. Durch die Auswertung ausgewählter Predigtbeispiele im Verhältnis zum historischen Kontext soll überprüft werden, inwieweit die evangelische Predigt auf besondere Schlüsselthemen, Zustände und Ereignisse reagiert hat. Die dabei entstandenen praktizierbaren Konzepte orientierten sich an konkreten Handlungsfeldern und waren weniger auf eine allgemeine Analyse, sondern auf die Beantwortung der Praktikabilität für die tatsächlichen Gemeinden und die realen Predigthörer orientiert: ein postulierter Pragmatismus, der konkrete Hilfeleistung zu geben vermochte, d. h. konkrete, handlungsorientierte Seelsorge in der Predigt.
