Inhaltlich wird die Predigt in ihrer gegenkulturellen Funktion wahrgenommen. »Predigt ist Torheit« und »Predigende sind Narren« – das ist die Grundthese des Buches. Rekurriert wird dabei u.a. auf Prophetenfiguren des Alten Testaments und auf Paulus, der als Gewährsmann für die Torheit des Kreuzes immer wieder begegnet. Der Band verbindet das südafrikanische Konzept des »Ubuntu« mit deutschsprachigen Überlegungen zum »Fragment« sowie niederländischen Ansätzen zu »Form« und »Reform« zu einer Theologie und Kulturhermeneutik der Liminalität, die sich in einem Predigen auf der Grenze konkretisiert. Der Gegenpol dieses liminalen Predigtverständnisses liegt in einer »stählernen Theologie«, die sich etwa in den Predigten aus der Zeit der Apartheid in Südafrika zeigte, aber bis in die Gegenwart auch in den USA und weiteren Kontexten begegnet. Entstanden ist so eine Kulturhermeneutik der Predigt in internationalem Horizont, die eine Provo¬kation darstellt für alle, die predigen und Predigten hören.
