'Das eschatologische Bureau hat heute zumeist geschlossen', sagte Ernst Troeltsch zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts. Dagegen gab es energischen Einspruch aus mehreren Konfessionen. Heute ist über ihre Grenzen hinweg völlig klar: Die Rede von dem, worauf Christinnen und Christen für sich und für alle Welt hoffen dürfen, ist integraler Bestandteil der Theologie. Freilich beginnen dann die Differenzen. Bislang zu wenig beachtet zeigen sich konfessionstypische Linien nicht nur in den dafür bekannten Themen wie Amt, Herrenmahl und Taufe, sondern eben auch in Bestimmungen der Eschatologie. Die Beiträge des Bandes gehen dem nach und versuchen zugleich, die interkonfessionellen Verständigungsmöglichkeiten in der Eschatologie, die bislang kaum erforscht sind, auszuleuchten.
