Im Mittelpunkt der Monographie steht eine Reihe von zwischenkirchlichen Konsultationen, die sogenannten Serbien-Tagungen, die unter Beteiligung der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland, der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz und der Serbischen Orthodoxen Kirche von 1999 bis 2009 stattfanden. Ziel der evangelisch-katholisch-orthodoxen ökumenischen Begegnungen war, Serbiens Demokratisierungsprozess und europĂ€ische Integration zu unterstĂŒtzen. An insgesamt neun Tagungen diskutierten die Delegierten der beteiligten Kirchen, Politiker, Vertreter der Zivilgesellschaft sowie Wissenschaftler die Rolle der Kirchen und der Religion in den beiden LĂ€ndern. Themen wie das VerhĂ€ltnis zwischen Kirche und Staat, die Rolle der Kirchen in einer sĂ€kularisierten Gesellschaft, Serbiens Beziehungen zum Rest von Europa, und Versöhnung wurden angesprochen. Die Analyse des Inhalts und der Ergebnisse der Konsultationen innerhalb des breiteren ökumenischen, sozialen und politischen Kontexts, in dem sie stattgefunden haben, ist durch Interviews mit ihren Initiatoren und Organisatoren ergĂ€nzt.Die Arbeit wurde ausgeziechnet mit dem Förderpreis der Fritz und Helga Exner-Stiftung der SĂŒdosteuropa-Gesellschaft.
