In den politisch, gesellschaftlich und kirchlich turbulenten Jahren zwischen 1888 und 1918 organisierte sich die Gemeinschaftsbewegung. Der Schritt in die Moderne nahm Elemente der eigentlich abgelehnten Französischen Revolution auf: Sie gestaltete Freiheit vom Staat und in der Kirche, lebte Gleichheit durch die Beteiligung von Laien und entwickelte Strukturen, die von BrĂŒderlichkeit geprĂ€gt waren.Der Aufbruch zu einer Art "Kerngemeinde" war nachhaltig von internationalen EinflĂŒssen geprĂ€gt, und er erfolgte im nationalkirchlichen Kontext. Diese Spannung fĂŒhrte zu nationaler Abgrenzung und ökumenischer Distanz. Dies verdrĂ€ngte in den Selbstdarstellungen zukunftsweisende theologische und praktische AnsĂ€tze. Genau um diese geht es in der vorliegenden Studie. Sie wirft die Frage auf, ob die Gemeinschaftsbewegung nicht in mehrfacher Hinsicht "der Zeit voraus" war.
