Distanciada de la tendencia exteriorista y el uso conversacional de la lengua que signa el trabajo de varios de sus coetáneos en la década del 80, la obra inicial de Di Paolo afilia más bien a la llamada "poesía pura", que tiene entre sus más conspicuos exponentes a José María Eguren y Emilio Adolfo Westphalen.
