Il volume affronta, dal punto di vista antropologico-culturale, quattro temi di ricerca che ruotano intorno alla morte. Il primo riguarda, da un lato, lo smarrimento di fronte all'angoscia di morte legata alla pandemia del 2020 e, dall'altro, la mappa culturale fornita dai miti fondativi, per riorientare quell'angoscia. Il secondo concerne il gioco politico-sociale intorno ai funerali, negati o concessi, di personalità ungheresi e le relative cerimonie riabilitative di risepoltura. Il terzo ruota intorno agli effetti del revival culturale della "vendetta di sangue" in Albania. Infine lo studio, più tradizionale, di un particolare sistema funerario calvinista, attivo in un'area rurale e periferica dell'Ungheria nord-orientale, legato a dei particolari simboli tombali detti fejfák "a forma di barca".
