Creo Parametric 4.0 for Designers, 4th Edition

About this book

Creo Parametric 4.0 for Designers textbook is written to help the readers effectively use the modeling and assembly tools by utilizing the parametric approach of Creo Parametric 4.0 effectively. This book provides detailed description of the tools that are commonly used in modeling, assembly, sheetmetal as well as in mold. This book also covers the latest surfacing techniques like Freestyle and Style with the help of relevant examples and illustrations. The Creo Parametric 4.0 for Designers book further elaborates on the procedure of generating the drawings of a model or assembly, which are used for documentation of a model or assembly. The examples and tutorials used in this textbook will ensure that the users can relate the knowledge of this book with the actual mechanical industry designs. Every chapter begins with a tools section that provides a brief information of the Creo Parametric tools. This approach allows the user to use this book initially as a learning tool and then as a reference material. Salient Features of the TextbookConsists of 16 chapters that are organized in a pedagogical sequence.Comprehensive coverage of concepts and techniques.Tutorial approach to explain the concepts. • Suppress and delete features
• Modify features

Options aiding construction of parts
This chapter explains the feature creation tools provided in Creo Parametric that help in creating and editing a model. In this chapter, you will also learn to create various types of holes that are required in most of the engineering designs. In previous chapters, you learned to create holes using extrude cut, but in this chapter you will create holes using the Hole tool. The Hole tool enables you to add simple, custom, and industry-standard holes to your models. You can create and modify holes in an easier manner using the options in the Hole tool.
In this chapter, you will also learn to create rounds, chamfers, and ribs.

Creating Holes
Hole feature is similar to the cut features with only difference is that a hole feature does not require a sketch. A hole feature is preferred over other cut features because it requires less dimensioning than that is required in a cut feature. In engineering components, holes can be counterbore, countersink, tapered, or drilled. Creo Parametric allows you to create all such types. Creo Parametric also provides industry standard holes that have standard dimensions. In Creo Parametric, holes are created using the Hole tool.

The Hole Dashboard
Ribbon: Model > Engineering > Hole
The Hole dashboard is displayed when you choose the Hole tool from the Engineering group in the Model tab, as shown in Figure 6-1. You can create two types of holes using the Hole dashboard, the Simple hole and the Standard hole. The options to create simple and standard holes are discussed next.

Creating Simple Holes Using Predefined Rectangle Profile
A simple hole consists of a revolved cut created using a rectangular cross-section. When you invoke the Hole dashboard, the Create Simple Hole and Use predefined rectangle as drill hole profile buttons are chosen by default, refer to Figure 6-1. The options and the buttons available in the dashboard are discussed next.

Dimension Edit Boxes
The first dimension box from the left in the Hole dashboard is used to specify the diameter of the hole.

The second dimension box from the left in the Hole dashboard is used to specify the depth of the hole. The...
