Als unsittlich geltende Tätigkeiten wie die Durchführung von Abtreibungen mussten verborgen im Hinterzimmer stattfinden.Wer durfte sich fortpflanzen und wer wurde Opfer der damals aufkommenden eugenischen Massnahmen? Wie sah die Erziehung zur Sauberkeit in Basler Schulen aus? Ausgehend von zumeist unveröffentlichtem historischem Quellenmaterial fragen die Autorinnen und Autoren, wer bestimmen durfte, was als hygienisch und sittlich galt, und wie die Gesellschaft nach den rigiden bürgerlichen Vorstellungen geformt werden sollte.
