Die Jury würdigte besonders die hohe Praxisrelevanz der Arbeit sowie die ausführlichen statistischen Analysen.Seit 1998 können deutsche Aktiengesellschaften den Erwerb eigener Aktien als Instrument der Finanzierungspolitik nutzen. Über hundert deutsche Gesellschaften haben bereits davon Gebrauch gemacht. Allerdings gehen die Meinungen über Sinn und Nutzen von deutschen Rückkaufprogrammen noch weit auseinander. In dieser Arbeit wird daher zunächst analysiert, welche Rahmenbedingungen deutsche Gesellschaften beim Erwerb eigener Anteile berücksichtigen müssen. Darauf aufbauend werden erstmals die tatsächlichen Kursreaktionen deutscher Aktienrückkaufprogramme empirisch untersucht. Schließlich werden mögliche Erwerbsmotive zur Durchführung von Rückkäufen systematisiert sowie empirisch eruiert, inwieweit diese Motive die gemessenen Kursreaktionen erklären können. Die Arbeit richtet sich zum einen an Wissenschaftler auf dem Gebiet der empirischen Kapitalmarktforschung und zum anderen an Investmentbanker, Unternehmensberater sowie Mitarbeiter börsennotierter Gesellschaften aus den Bereichen Finanzen, Rechnungswesen, Unternehmensplanung und Investor Relations.
