Die Biotechnologie wird hĂ€ufig als eine sehr bedeutende Technologie des 21. Jahrhunderts angesehen. Allerdings sind die empirischen Erkenntnisse ĂŒber ihre wirtschaftlichen Effekte bislang gering. Daran setzt diese Arbeit an. Auf der Basis von theoretischen WirkungszusammenhĂ€ngen untersucht der Autor mögliche zukĂŒnftige Produktions- und BeschĂ€ftigungseffekte der Biotechnologie. Dabei werden in verschiedenen Szenarien fĂŒr das Jahr 2020 technologische Entwicklungen fĂŒr verschiedene Anwendungsfelder projiziert und mit einem Input-Output-Modell gekoppelt. Die Ergebnisse ermöglichen Aussagen ĂŒber die NettoverĂ€nderung der Produktion und BeschĂ€ftigung sowie VerĂ€nderungen im sektoralen Strukturwandel durch die Diffusion der Biotechnologie.
