Die EuropĂ€ische Union als Lerngegenstand ist fĂŒr Lehrende und Lernende gleichermaßen herausforderungsvoll, denn ein "europĂ€isches Bewusstsein" als Ziel politischer Bildung setzt mehr voraus als affektives ZugehörigkeitsgefĂŒhl. FĂŒr eine angemessene politische Urteilsbildung ist EU-bezogenes Wissen notwendig. Dabei geht es um eine differenzierte Auseinandersetzung mit europĂ€ischen Themen, Herausforderungen und Konflikten, die sich nicht von momentanen Stimmungen oder von einer diffusen Ablehnung leiten lĂ€sst. Europabildung hat nicht vorrangig die Aufgabe, fĂŒr die europĂ€ische Integration zu begeistern. Sie muss vielmehr die gewachsene Bedeutung der EU verstehbar machen, ihre Probleme benennen sowie analysieren und schließlich die politische Urteilsbildung und HandlungsfĂ€higkeit der SchĂŒlerinnen und SchĂŒler fördern. Indem politische Europabildung Wissen, Einstellungen und Erfahrungen sowie Urteilskraft und Handlungskompetenz miteinander verknĂŒpft, kann sie eine wichtige Grundlage zur Herausbildung der vielbeschworenen "europĂ€ischen IdentitĂ€t" legen und einen Beitrag zur Entwicklung einer demokratischen politischen Kultur der EU leisten.
