Trazos del imaginario ashkenazi en México es una antología que reúne cuentos, proverbios, chistes, poemas, refranes, maldiciones, parábolas, juegos y canciones que trajeron consigo a México los inmigrantes judíos de Europa Oriental en los años vente del siglo pasado. Shtétl, diminutivo de shtot (en ídish, ciudad) hace referencia a las aldeas de origen de estos inmigrantes y, en el imaginario ashkenazi mexicano, el shtétl se convirtió en un espacio mítico, con personajes, costumbres y tradiciones entrañables. Al mismo tiempo, como tantos otros inmigrantes, los judíos ashkenazis quedaron cautivados por los olores, sabores y colores de México y la grandeza de capital, la "Ciudad de los Palacios", el escenario en el que darían forma a una nueva vida judía fuertemente impregnada de aquella cultura que habían dejado atrás.
