Attraverso una ricostruzione delle ragioni politico-culturali di questo tortuoso percorso il volume consegna al lettore un il ritratto, a confronto, dell'America "profonda" e della sua Amministrazione con l'ultrasecolare diplomazia vaticana. Vi si troverĂ  la diffidenza anticattolica ma anche il lavorĂŹo diplomatico fra le due sponde dell'atlantico. Un processo non lineare che vedrĂ  un punto di svolta negli anni Trenta, con la visita nel 1936 negli Usa dell'allora car- dinale Pacelli sino all'invio a Roma di Myron Taylor nel 1940 in veste di rappresentante personale del presidente Roosevelt.
