Young Ghoulem Berrah was a Freedom Fighter for the Independence of Algeria.While an activist medical student in Bordeaux, France, he was pursued by the police and fled the country. Despite crawling on his hands and knees for hours, when he arrived in Pamplona, Spain, he was arrested and imprisoned.In his early twenties he represented the FLN (Algerian Liberation Front) in China, and metChairmanMao Zedong. Soon afterhe traveled to America as a prestigious Fulbright Scholar at Indiana University. His research spearheaded innovations which impacted the world of Biological Sciences. He was listed amongthe American Men of Science and became Dr. Ghoulem Berrah apermanent member of the New York Academy of Science. He was then hired to be alecturer attheYale School of Medicine.
Concerned by the lack of Worldwide Peace, he accepted an offer from President Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire to serve in Africa. His Diplomatic talents were obvious as he served as a Special Advisor, Emissary, and Ambassador at Large. Here he faced the turmoil of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict head on, challenged the status quo and embraced both dialogue and peace. In 1976, he initiated the first secret meeting between the I C I P P (Israeli Council for Israeli-Palestine Peace) and the PLO of Chairman Arafat.
His Excellency Dr. Ghoulem Berrah (1938-2011) was a tireless proponent of world peace. After President Siad Barre of Somalia took the port of Berbera from the Russians, Dr. Berrah was charged with delivering the news to the Americans.
