Se explica de manera detallada cómo el Banco de la República, banco central de Colombia, en coordinación con el sistema financiero, crea la cantidad de dinero que hay en la economía de este país. Es una interpretación de los conceptos desarrollados en los textos de teoría y política monetaria, aplicados a la realidad de las cifras de la economía colombiana.En una primera parte se explican algunas definiciones de dinero que son necesarias para llegar al concepto de agregado monetario. En la segunda parte se analiza el proceso de creación primaria de dinero, que está a cargo del Banco de la República, mediante la utilización de instrumentos de control monetario que ha diseñado dicha institución. En la tercera parte se expone el proceso de creación secundaria del dinero, que se da por la mediación del sistema financiero al captar recursos de unidades superavitarias y colocarlos en unidades deficitarias de fondos, ampliando la cantidad de dinero que es puesta inicialmente en la economía por el banco central.
