El 1965-1966 i el 1967, en dues tongades, Gabriel Ferrater va fer a la Universitat de Barcelona
aquest Curs de literatura catalana contemporĂ nia. La majoria de conferĂšncies es van enregistrar
i després es van transcriure; d'algunes altres en van quedar només els apunts de classe del
transcriptor. La totalitat del curs es recull ara, per primera vegada, en un volum que proposa
la visiĂł mĂ©s lĂșcida, intel·ligent i encara avui polĂšmica dels corrents centrals de la literatura catalana
del segle xx. Ferrater hi parla amb tot detall de quatre poetes (Josep Carner, Guerau de
Liost, Carles Riba i J. V. Foix) i tres prosistes (Joaquim Ruyra, VĂctor CatalĂ i Josep Pla). El conjunt
s'enriqueix, a més, amb una doble conferÚncia panorà mica que Ferrater va pronunciar poc
abans de suïcidar-se, i amb una entrevista inÚdita del març del 1963 sobre la poesia de Riba.
