Entre los locos es un relato desgarrador acerca de las condiciones de vía de los locos en los asilos en Francia de los años veinte del siglo pasado. ¿Por qué publicar hoy la traducción de un libro así, 87 años después de sui aparición Quizás un hecho bastaría para explicarlo: en los años 2003 y 2004 estudiantes de mi curso de escritura en la escuela de Comunicación Social del Universidad del Valle, donde soy docente, escribieron una serie de reportajes sobre las condiciones de los locos en el Hospital psiquiátrico san isidro de Cali. Lo que ellos, tan sensibles contaron fue estremecedor. Nadie más desprotegido que los locos, nadie más abusado que los alienados, nadie más desvalido que los enfermos mentales. La coincidencia con lo que Londres narraba su libro, a quien yo había leído recientemente. Era extraordinaria: la misma infamia, el mismo desamparo, la misma violencia, la misma orfandad la esencia de los muchos problemas que, de manera fragmentada, mis estudiantes habían encontrado en Cali, tantos años después.
