Von den vier geplanten Romanen zur Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland zwischen 1968 und 1989 liegt hier der zweite vor: "Zwielicht". Nach dem 2001 erschienenen Roman "Ein Frühling irrer Hoffnung" entwirft Schöfer in "Zwielicht" ein breites Panorama der siebziger Jahre, in deren Verlauf viele Reformanstöße der Achtundsechziger weiterentwickelt werden. Die lange verdunkelte Arbeitswelt und die Natur werden in Bürgerinitiativen, in der Arbeiterbewegung und in der Literatur neu entdeckt. Gleichzeitig rüstet der demokratische Staat, in Abwehr der militanten Herausforderung durch die Gewalttäter der RAF, seine Gesetze und polizeilichen Machtmittel auf und setzt sie mit wachsendem Nachdruck auch gegen die außerparlamentarische Bewegung ein. Schöfer schildert Menschen, die in dieser zwiespältigen Entwicklung der Gesellschaft als handelnde Demokraten ihren Weg suchen.Der Geschichtslehrer Viktor Bliss und der Betriebsrat Manfred Anklam, die Akteure des achtundsechziger Romans, werden in neuen Lebenskonstellationen verfolgt, während als dritte Hauptperson Armin Kolenda, ein angehender Journalist, beim Kampf gegen das Atomkraftwerk Wyhl seine große Liebe und unter den schreibenden Arbeitern des Werkkreises Freunde und Gegner findet.
