Old Testament

A Matter of Life and Death

Deuteronomy 30:11–20

What He commands you today

Ain’t strenuous and hard

Or beyond the arms reach

Or guarded by guards

It’s not way up in the heavens

So don’t even ask…

“Who’s gonna go get it

And assign us a task?”

Don’t even hoist up your sails

And drift out to sea

Or beckon the sailors,

“Y’all bring that to me!”

The Lord’s Word is near to you

Should be right in your mouth

Stop tryin’ to avoid it

By sailing boats south

See, He set here before you

Life, riches, and wealth

Or death and destruction

Who wouldn’t choose health?

His command for today is

To love the Lord God

And walk in His ways and

Keep all of His laws

But when our hearts turn away

And we’re led by our sin

We bow down to fake gods

And worship on them

He declares when we do this

We will be destroyed

Our life will be cut short

And blessings devoid

The Lord calls heaven and earth

To witness your choice

Of life and its blessings

Or death and divorce

He says you should choose life

For you and your kids

’Cause the life that you choose

May cause them to live

When we choose the lit path

And live in the land

The Father will bles...
